Why Change?
Introduction
To most people, change can be something that is not welcome and undesirable. Any changes will disrupt your status quo and you will perhaps be out of your comfort zone and in the state of disequilibrium.

I was a teacher for the past 22 years. In actual fact, I started teaching as young as a child when I played “Teacher and Student” with my cousins.
After being in the leadership position for more than 10 years, I decided to steer my career journey to another path and decided to tender my resignation.
I have been blessed to be under several great leadership. They had groomed me to who I am today. Thanks to the merger of my school, I found a good timing to move on without feeling the guilt of leaving my colleagues and school leaders behind, as I know my department and students would be in good hands by the new team of leadership.
When I expressed my intentions to leave, many felt that it was a waste for me not to stay. To be able to work with wonderful colleagues, having supportive school leaders and adorable students are more than I have asked for. My gratitude towards all these love is endless. Still, I decided to try another profession....here’s why:
I spent more than 2 decades building my skills as an educator and basically performed many roles. It was incidental in my leadership position. 2nd year into my teaching career, I was approached to help the management to “help out” in the library. Upon agreeing, I was given the position of a library coordinator, managing funds and responsible for the students’ readership in the school. When I moved on to another school, I was again approached to “help out” the art department in the school. Little did I know that it meant being in the exco team (management team) of the school.
It was leadership by chance for me. And over the years, I found my calling to remain in the service to create impact to the students and to my fellow colleagues as I was able to make changes within the scope as a leader.
The hunger to make changes has now extended to my personal aspiration. Please read on the “Why”.
The Why
Somehow I feel that I need to do more to create impact, and I want to be able to do the things that I want before the end of my life. More than 40 years have gone and I have basically walked a full life cycle of myself - growing up, getting married and divorced, having children and developing them as young adults single-handedly (gratitude to my domestic helper of 20 years, it was an easier role playing the father’s role). It is time to stop, rethink and reflect what I want for my next 40 years of life (assuming that I will live up to 80 plus years of age). I asked myself this question - Do I want to only know how to teach and be an educator and to stay in my comfort zone? Being a workaholic (according to gallup strengthsfinder, I am the achiever profile and according to chinese profiling, I am the wealth structure and will work till my maximum capacity) and being a Singapore educator, I find it hard to find time to do other things I want and would like to do, such as sleeping, wasting time and perhaps look for another life partner.
Based on chinese profiling, the coming 2019 is going to be a change for me and I am embracing the change now, to do a reset, restart and refresh my life. It may seem like a bad choice for many people - especially when I am no longer young. But who knows? I want to encourage the rest of you to follow your heart - but not without any preparation and idea of what you intend to do!
Here’s the video that I would like to share:
Is your job a waste of your life?
The What
What do I want to do? When a door is closed, there will be another door open for you. For me, many doors have open for me.
Learn to be financial and insurance literate
Being a single mother for more than 18 years - I missed out many things but at the same time gained many things, like my 3 wonderful grown-up kids. One of the things which I might have missed out is to improve myself in the financial knowledge and be insurance literate. Having major in finance in my uni days seems to be like a white elephant and I didn’t apply my skills and knowledge back then. I depended a lot on others such as my insurance agent. The frustration came when I became unwell and needed to go for a few minor operations over the years and I was not provided enough guidance by my agent at all and had to do my own research to ensure that I get myself covered for the treatments. The investment portfolio proposed by my agent didn’t really serve me well too. The learner in me and the The ‘wanting to create an impact” freak in me triggered my actions - I want to be in the position to assist people in this area, so as to be ready for any storm ahead or to build the golden nest for the future.
p.s. I shared with my agent about my decision to join the industry. She wished me well and shared with me her challenges that she faced in this industry. I need to thank her. Without her, I will not be in this industry to create my impact in any little ways that I can have.
Blog about Chinese Profiling
I am given the opportunity to work with like-minded person (pen name Life Transformer). We work together to bring forth the chinese profiling in modern application. The chinese profiling has been invented in chinese dynasty for centuries. The knowledge is vast and untapped by modern people at large. Many people associated it as something superstitious and relate it to religions. Believe it or not, these are just energy flow (aka qi) and such knowledge is the root of many applications in today’s world, such as TCM (traditional chinese medicine). If there is no truth to it, why do we see more and more people having to turn to TCM for treatments of illnesses as well as for general well-being? Chinese profiling can be an easy way to guide us to answer certain difficult questions in life - What job am I suited to do? What industries should I focus in? What type of person I am? It’s like a mirror that tells you objectively what to look out for and it may tell you hard facts that can be difficult to swallow. In the olden days, people will simply resign to fate, but I beg to differ and change it. It is really to know what is your true potential and how you can achieve it through changing yourself internally and changing the environment surrounding you. Embrace change and steer it to your advantage! Please read our posts in our blog:
Help build an international school from scratch
Other than being a full time financial advisor, I have also decided to continue to tap on my expertise in teaching to help build an international school in another country. Trust me - it is really from scratch. Based on chinese profiling, the wood element is comforting for me. Not that I need to be in the forest all the time literally. But it is easy for me to work with wood element such as education. This path has proven to be true in in my 22 years of education profession. After talking to the investors of the school, I found my passion ignited again - I want to do something which I am not able to achieve in Singapore - to build a school and create the curriculum and make a difference in developing the child to be future ready. The ‘wanting to create an impact” freak in me has acted out once again (i.e. the fire element in chinese profiling)
Then What
Thank you for reading my “Why” and “What” for the changes which I am embracing. I will start my new life journey and I am thankful for all the blessings which I have received thus far. I will continue to blog about my new journey. Stay tuned!
