We have the choice to be free, and to be free is to have self-discipline. Does it seem ironic? To be free means to be freedom to choose what you want to achieve. Many of us, if not all, aim to achieve a meaningful and successful career, and to achieve that, we need self-discipline.
From being in a structured working environment to one that I manage my own time schedule, self-disciple is an important life skill that I need to uphold for myself. I am grateful that I had worked in a large public organisation, whereby being punctuality and having structures and systems were part of my working life then. Hence being punctual and early becomes a habit since my early working years and is something which I will stick to till now.
Trust me, it was not easy to sleep at close to 12 midnight and woke up by 5.15 am every morning to get ready for work as an educator for 22 years, especially for me - I love to sleep! Drinking coffee has become my addiction and my ex-students would probably remember me as a teacher who brought coffee flask to the classrooms.
Hence, when I have become a financial consultant, it is tempting to sleep more. Finally I can see the daylight when I go to work. However I begin to see the benefit of waking up early. In order to achieve what I hope to achieve for this career, there are lots of learning and long hours of working and studying, to ensure I give my best to the things I do. And waking up early allows me to have more productivity time and brain juice to complete them. In actual fact, successful people wake up early (point 11 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ulhxX_tnqY)
In order to wake up early, self-discipline has to come in hand in hand, especially if you sleep late. Below are 10 powerful ways to master self-disciple - https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/287005
