Today I am going to share about the word "breakthrough". What does this word mean to me?
Breakthrough means a sudden, dramatic, and important discovery or development. I would like to associate breakthrough to metamorphosis, as it means that i have to transform myself via great pain before changing (for the better).
Just like a caterpillar that takes great effort (by melting itself) to go through the process of metamorphosis, it is definitely not easy to achieve breakthrough. It deters many people to make any drastic changes to achieve breakthrough as the stakes are high. Having a breakthrough, nevertheless, is something that I encourage everyone, including myself to have.
Just like here I was - pushing my own limits and having a personal breakthrough in overcoming my physical limits in trekking by doing a 8 days Europe trekking. Having to walk 10,000 steps a day in Singapore is already considered an achievement and 42,377 steps in a day was unimaginable but i did it!
You will never know what you can achieve until you try. And if you didn't achieve what you have set for yourself, it might be that you didn't wait a while longer and keep on trying. I didn't know I can walk 42,377 steps in a day till I pushed on as there was no other way but to continue to walk ahead!
Having said/written that, such breakthrough will not be possible without taking small steps and having small successes. Here’s a video that shows the speaker Stephen Duneier, who is an expert institutional investor, a large scale installation artist, avid outdoor sports person, professor, decision strategist, coach, business leader, mindfulness extremist, author, speaker, daredevil and Guinness world record holder. He coined his approach of breaking down big concepts into small tasks as marginal adjustments.

So my big “concept” of walking 42,377 steps all started back in Singapore - taking time to exercise - from taking the stairs back home to walking at Bukit Timah Hill. I would also like to thank my friends who encouraged me to take small steps at a time to achieve this feat.

Thank you!
