Be grateful

I had a task recently, to list down all the things that I was grateful for that day. Interestingly there were a lot of things to be grateful about. One of which was actually a mishap, that my zip for my dress was spoilt. And I was definitely grateful for having to realize it in time and to cover myself with a sweater. If you were in my shoes, what would your reaction be? Would you be frustrated as you might end up wearing a sweater in the hot sun? Finding gratitude in our challenges (which we will face every time) will allow us not to give up things in life easily and get us to develop our resilience towards adversity (link).


This is indeed true in my new career, whereby facing rejections is part of our daily life. I see many of my colleagues feeling dejected, as we can be rejected by even our closest friends at times. On the other hand, I am truly grateful to those who believe in the work I do, and I promise myself not to let them down.


Be also grateful to those that have caused you pain (link). They are there to let you learn life lessons. For example, I finally learnt what is the meaning of love (at much wiser age). One of the many ways to show the true meaning of love is that love should focus on how we can contribute to each other's growth. We should appreciate every effort and kind thoughts the other person has as well.


I have also learnt from an ex-subordinate who did not see eye to eye with the things I did - on what I could have done better.


Finally, I would like to show my gratitude to my parents, who had brought me up and let me be who I am today. I am not perfect. I am who I am because of all the experiences that I have had.


Be grateful, for all the things that you are experiencing. They are here, given to you, for a reason.
